Your Unique Role

The role of the Process Metallurgist (PM) entails offering operational and project support for order processing, as well as the continuous development, implementation, and enhancement of processes and products. These efforts aim to meet or exceed customer demands in terms of quality, consistency, and timely performance while ensuring safety and cost-effectiveness. The PM will collaborate internally with Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, and others to align with company and customer quality standards. Direct interaction with manufacturing plant staff will be crucial to devising and implementing solutions that address customer requirements. The PM will also engage with internal and external stakeholders, following strict confidentiality procedures, to collaborate on various projects.

  • Process/Product Development & Improvement
  • Leading and managing assigned product development initiatives and projects to deliver timely and effective results that meet customer demands.
  • Initiating, developing, and implementing plans to enhance existing process and product quality and consistency in line with management objectives.
  • Formulating and implementing manufacturing plans, processes, and procedures for new products aligned with management goals.
  • Ensuring compliance with established quality systems and procedures.
  • Reviewing and addressing customer claims and internal Corrective and Preventive Action Reports (CARs).
  • Developing expertise in areas like Statistical Process Control (SPC), Statistical Quality Control (SQC), and Lean methodologies.
  • Creating, developing, and reporting on metrics related to process development and production, leveraging computer technology for efficient communication.
  • Operations
  • Overseeing bi-metallic casting activities, including product recipes, testing, Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE), and outsourced processes.
  • Aligning product and testing priorities with furnace production schedules through appropriate personnel.
  • Optimizing casting material utilization while maintaining product and quality integrity.
  • Providing backup support for the Casting Manager and other team members as necessary.
  • Ensuring completeness, accuracy, and approval of casting records, charts, furnace maps, and shop orders.
  • Managing process specifications and training requirements.
  • General Responsibilities
  • Fulfilling other assigned responsibilities as required to support company objectives.
  • Meeting on-site attendance requirements to build positive relationships and engage with all employees effectively.
  • Traveling as needed to meet customer demands, possibly involving limited international travel (around 10-20%).

Seeking a Candidate With:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Metallurgy, Material Science Engineering, or related technical field.
  • At least 5 years' experience as a process or product metallurgist in a machining environment, with a strong focus on shop-floor product/process development and improvement.
  • Minimum of 2 years' demonstrated project management experience involving product development, continuous improvement, and/or process development.
  • Strong enthusiasm for new technology and its management.
  • Desire and capability to develop methods for data analysis, including simulation techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical individuals.
  • Outstanding teamwork and collaboration abilities for effective problem-solving within cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in project management, organization, and follow-through in a results-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ data analytics for root cause analysis, optimization, profit maximization, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Robust statistical process control and analysis skills.
